The Blue Mountains

In September, I had a glimpse of the Blue Mountains while watching Tomorrow, when the war began as a lot of the filming was done in the area. So when Carolin talked about heading there after Sydney, I joined her. We spent 3 days in the area located a 2-hour train ride West of Sydney. On our first day we went to the popular Echo Point but we explored much further than the bus loads of tourists. After taking in the view of the three sisters. (There used to be seven, but they have slowly disintegrated over the millenniums), we walked down approximately 900 steep steps down to the trail below. No I didn’t count them, just read the sign at the bottom J.

We then walked through the forest and came back up another steep path further down. It was a good challenge but overall not too hard, even for us who weren’t in top shape. Though my thighs felt it the next day.
We then headed back to our comfy hostel in Katoomba and went to bed early exhausted by the hike and the fresh air!
Wentworth Falls
On our second day, we went to Wentworth Falls initially following the path that Charles Darwin took during his trip to the falls. The trail made us cross the falls at top and in the middle. We then walked midway down this cliffy area. We chose this option rather than going even further down to walk in the rainforest as we’d both seen a lot of the rainforest and not much of this mountain scenery.
The path we took is along the top of the lower green section

It was a beautiful trail. We saw lots of birds and often walked under small waterfalls running down the rock on top of us. Of course, after having walked down quite a bit, we had to walk it all up again and we made back up to a café right before the rain hit hard.
As our third day was a rainy one, we stayed in our cozy hostel. I did a bit of my freelance translation work online and finished the book I was reading. As this trip was mostly about the scenery, here are some more pictures!
